Jan Crawford at CBS News has an article on Romney’s shell-shock following his failed bid for the White House.  In the write up Crawford points out several false assumptions the GOP made about poll data and voter turnout.  What stuck out for me was this:

They thought intensity and enthusiasm were on their side this time – poll after poll showed Republicans were more motivated to vote than Democrats – and that would translate into votes for Romney.

Yes, Republicans wanted President Obama out but I did not see the party members looking particularly enthusiastic.  They had a poor pool of candidates to choice from and Mitt Romney was simple the best of the worst; which was echoed by the  low voter turnout during the primary.
