Frequently Asked Questions

What we’re looking for

We are looking for progressive writers who want to help educate, advocate, and create awareness on issues of health, education, mental health, criminal justice, social work, nonprofit and philanthropy, culture, social good, human rights, global poverty, diversity, disability, LGBT, homelessness, HIV and more.

We want writers to share their stories or the stories of others. We want writers to share their experiences, knowledge, and expertise in working with vulnerable populations.

We want writers from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines who work intersects with serving the same demographics as social workers.

We want to share evidence-based information, research, and resources to our readers.

What we’re not looking for

Social Work Helper does not support conservative ideology because we believe it is counter to the needs of vulnerable groups and populations.

We believe climate change is real, gun prevention is a public health crisis, and women have a right to make their own healthcare decisions.

Prevailing conservative ideology promotes “pulling one’s self up by your bootstraps”,  but here at Social Work Helper we acknowledge and understand systematic oppression creates barriers for many vulnerable populations. How do you pull yourself up when you don’t have boots?

We must use holistic and intersectional solutions on the macro, mezzo, and micro levels to remove challenges and barriers to achieving better outcomes. Unfortunately, conservatives rely predominantly on personal responsibility to problem-solve societal issues.

Writing is unpaid

Social Work Helper is not a profitable organization, and we are unable to pay writers at this time. However, we try to increase exposure on the issues you care about as well as help you to increase your public profile as a writer. Social Work Helper is a Google News and Apple News Outlet which will give you a larger platform to be heard.

Article Format

I have included some samples of how your articles should be formatted. Typically, articles should not be written in first person or how you would write for an informal personal blog. The focus should be how your article will influence or impact its reader. Also, view these five easy steps for writing an article.

Sourcing

Articles should be written in AP Style. There should not be a reference section or any in-text citations as illustrated in academic/journal writing using APA style. For example, when referencing a source, you should hyperlink the source over part of the text. For instance, here is a short guide to Journalism AP style writing.
