Do you Eat to Live or Live to Eat….or does healthy living come natural to you? I am definitely one of those people who live to eat. To be honest, I am the kind that plans about dinner while eating lunch!  And I am pretty sure there are many of you like me out there but it’s not that easy trying to be Nigella Lawson while, having a 9 to 5 full-time job, kids, pets and other commitments ( well, not if you are the actual Nigella Lawson, then in my eyes, you can do wonders! :p )

I personally think every one of us are foodies is our own way.  Food now has become a big part of our lifestyle with the help of the television and internet. There are no recipes which are out of reach for us ranging from 15 minutes meals to making your own 15 tier wedding cake! And not only recipes, you also get millions of recipe videos shared by other foodies to make your life easier.  And if you have a huge cook book selection like me, then it’s time to dust them out!

Be DARING! Try out a new recipe today, go buy a vegetable that you have never tried before, mix and match and be adventurous. Don’t like something in the recipe? Then remove it, substitute it with something else that you like. Cooking is not all about technique and following instructions, it’s an art. It’s what you want your food to taste and look like, and if it doesn’t work out the first time, keep trying! Go to your local butcher or market and cook local produce. Not only it’s helping local farmers, it’s also fresh, healthy and you are in touch with your own environment!

Or if you have been cooking for a while now, then why not try something new from another country? Stop walking pass that Asian shop every day, walk into it! Ask the shop keeper questions.  Go on, make him work a little for the money you are handing over to him!  Smell and feel the different vegetables and spices, and learn. Trust me, Open your heart to cooking and let you mind do some learning. It’s a win win situation.

I could go on and on about food and why people should love it and share it but that will probably take years, so instead I am going to write about it here. But the last thing I wanted to say for today was food brings family closer together.  So instead of getting that usual take away, call you partner, or your kids, plan to cook something together, bake together, call your friends and try out each other’s food.  Like I said, it’s a way of life. You got to eat every day, so why not make it interesting?

I have a full time IT job that requires me to travel a lot and many other family and personal commitments too, so don’t tell me you are too busy! If I can do it, so can you! Well, we can at least try together!

Now let’s start with a nice and simple Egg Fried Pasta With Prawns and Mushrooms recipe which you will fall in love with!

Egg Fried Pasta with Prawns and Mushrooms
Egg Fried Pasta with Prawns and Mushrooms
You would need:
250g boiled Fusilli pasta
250g raw prawns
1 tablespoon of olive oil
5 cloves of garlic – reduce to taste
3 large chestnut mushroom – sliced
Broccoli and cauliflower – or any veg in your fridge
2 eggs
2 teaspoon of chili paste
1 teaspoon of oyster sauce
1 teaspoon of light soy sauce
2 teaspoons of dark soy sauce
Sesame oil – to drizzle at the end
1)      Boil the pasta – make sure it’s a little underdone as it will cook more when you stir fry – set aside
2)      Heat pan with olive oil, add garlic, chili paste mushrooms and prawns. Stir fry till everything browns a little
3)      Add veg, pasta, oyster sauce, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce and stir. Then add the eggs, salt and pepper to taste, and stir fry again
4)      Turn off heat, add a few drops of sesame oil and give it a good mix.
Lets get cooking!
