Facebook does offer opportunities to businesses and brands of all sizes and types, but you just have to find your tribe. We know you hear us saying that a lot “You just have to find your tribe” but it’s the most important part of social marketing because if no one can hear you how can they communicate with you… they can’t!

So Facebook, what does it offer today’s businesses?

  • It’s currently the biggest social network, how long that remains is anyone’s guess.
  • The ability to get your brand out to the masses, but do this wrong and you will lose big time and maybe even damage your brand beyond repair.
  • Is it worth filling out a profile as yourself? You have no choice, Facebook is set up so that you have to have a personal profile before you can create a business page or group.
  • Your profile should make you look interesting and the person to do business with. If people are drawn to you as a person, they’ll want to find out more about you as a business. It’s about building rapport with your tribe.
  • Choose a smiling, relaxed picture of yourself – not drunk lying outside a club or a cheesy one for that matter. Keep the image consistent across other social media platforms if you use them as this shows your presence means something to you.
  • Write about your business as an introduction not chapter and verse. You need to draw your potential customers in at a steady rate.
  • Don’t forget to add links to your website or blog.
  • Let people know what you’re passionate about because even though it might be another business you are communicating with there will be another person at the end of the line.
  • There is an art to this but use what you say, on a regular basis to deliver your brand messages.
  • Give help and advice.
  • Content is king so think about what you say before you say it.

How to use Facebook to market your business…

  • Don’t flood your wall, or anyone else’s, with marketing sales messages as this is perceived as being too pushy and you will lose followers quicker than you can say Facebook
  • You have friends right? Well there’s nothing wrong with asking them for a little help from time to time by ‘pushing’ your message for you. Don’t rely on this method and don’t overuse it. Remember its like asking to borrow the ladders, once or twice is fine but anymore…
  • Create event pages if you are holding a launch, special sales day or any other kind of event, invite all your friends, make it an open invite and encourage friends to invite people they know.
  • Contact with clients and customers can also help build your brand, but again use it sparingly.
  • This is just scratching the surface and in truth could be used on all the social media platforms but Facebook is there and it shouldn’t be ignored even though many think its only for kids and bands.

This is a great start for organisations and if its something you have put off trying our advice would be to “give it a go” whats the worst that can happen?
