Union Station InteriorI long for the day that I can arrive to work and continue to be in awe of the beautiful surroundings where I will conduct the day’s business. This is not an issue for Kevin Lynch the General Manager of the Human Rights Campaign Washington DC Store. The DC store is located at 1633 Connecticut Avenue NW in Dupont Circle which is in the heart of Downtown DC.

However, when Kevin wants to get out of the office, he surrounds himself with the beautiful sights, sounds, architecture, and history at Union Station which is where I had the opportunity to meet him. As I walked into Union Station for my very first visit, I was greeted by Kevin Lynch who gave me a campaign sticker as I was passing by the Human Right’s Campaign (HRC) booth . It didn’t take long before we quickly realized that we have much in common to talk about.

Kevin received his Masters in Social Work from the University of Houston in Texas, and he completed his undergraduate education at North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh, North Carolina. Kevin provided information on the important issues the campaign works tirelessly on in order to advocate, educate, and mobilize its members and allies. These issues include marriage equality, bullying, workplace discrimination, and health care disparities to name a few. Although the NCSU Wolfpacks and the UNC Tarheels are sworn enemies, Kevin and I are allies in the fight for social justice and equality for all.

I have included some information on the mission and vision of the Human Right’s Campaign in case you are unfamiliar with this organization:

As the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans, the Human Rights Campaign represents a force of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide — all committed to making HRC’s vision a reality.Founded in 1980, HRC advocates on behalf of LGBT Americans, mobilizes grassroots actions in diverse communities, invests strategically to elect fair-minded individuals to office and educates the public about LGBT issues.
